The Kindle Craze
There is a lot of buzz around the Amazon Kindle.
From a consumer’s perspective the Kindle is a dream:
Amazon aggressively markets and sells the Kindle. In fact you don’t even have to purchase a Kindle from Amazon, You could get it at Best Buy, Target, Staples and even WalMart.
Amazon is also aggressively pricing the Kindle making it extremely affordable. Be sure that the new Color Kindle, rumored to be released this October will be pushed far and hard by Amazon.
The amazing thing about the Kindle is that you don’t actually have to buy one to enjoy reading low price Kindle Books. Anyone can download Free Kindle Reading Apps for their Mac, PC and a variety of mobile and Tablet devices.
Now, let’s flip the switch and look at this from a self publisher’s perspective:
Millions of people buy off Amazon. Whether you already have a published print book on Amazon to convert to Kindle or are considering entering the Indie publishing arena with Kindle ebooks and articles, you need to understand the Kindle mindset and how you can take advantage of it!
What makes publishing with Kindle so Attractive?
Kindle Short Documents and eBooks can Go Viral
If you already use a Kindle device or App you know that getting more Kindle books is contagious, almost viral. This is especially true when it comes to nonfiction books, specifically Kindle short documents. Kindle short documents, also known as Kindle Singles are shorter works such as articles, interviews, compilations, poetry and much more.
What you may not realize about Kindle books is that they can contain live links.
If you are converting your printed book into a Kindle format, take the time to add in some links!
At the very bottom of the first Kindle short document I purchased I found a resource section full of links to blogs, videos and even recommended reading.
I found myself buying 2 more Kindle short documents that day based on internal recommendations from the authors.
This is very powerful and should not be abused!
Seamless Payment on Amazon Makes Kindle Books Consumption a Cinch
When someone buys your book from the Kindle Store, all they have to do is use the 1-Click payment option. This is very much similar in mindset to making a PayPal payment; its fast, easy and painless.
The first time a consumer buys on Amazon, they are asked to associate a credit card to their account. After that, all that is needed to do to purchase off Amazon, is click on the 1-click buy option.
It’s shockingly easy to buy one Kindle book after the another.
The Amazon Global Platform – Think BIG!
When you publish a book or short document to Kindle you will be earning a royalty every time someone buys your book.
There are two royalty price points at work;
- Books priced up to $2.99 will earn you a 30% royalty
- Books priced above $2.99 will earn you a 70% royalty
Many Amazon self publishers opt to price their eBooks above $2.99, thereby earning a 70% royalty per sale as opposed to 30% royalty at a price lower than $2.99.
This is a bit short sighted.
First you must remember the size of the Amazon Platform. Amazon is truly global. You can make an insane number of sales if you have something good to offer.
I am referring to sales in many countries.
In fact overall you might make much more money selling your eBook on Kindle for less than $2.99, consider charging 99-cents and see what happens.
One of my friends explained his Kindle book buying mindset to me like this:
“I usually read my Kindle on the bus on the way to work. After I starting buying Kindle books like mad I realized it was all adding up. You can spend an actual fortune of you’re not careful.
If I’m buying a book every day for 2 dollars, at the end of the week I will have spent $14, which adds up to almost $60 a month, whereas if I buy a book for 99 cents every couple of days it’s no big deal.”
One of the Kindle Books Stores bestselling authors John Locke talks about this pricing approach in his bestselling Kindle book HOW I SOLD 1 MILLION eBOOKS IN 5 MONTHS!
As you can see many people are cashing in on self publishing with Kindle, and these are only a few of the reasons detailed!
Be Warned
I am not at all implying that you should somehow game the system or start to self publish PLR or recycled product. Quality is important. Kindle readers are smart. You do need to make sure your book looks nice and contains lot’s of value, but that should go with out saying…
These are just a few of the reasons you should be publishing with Kindle yesterday!
