Marketing With Branding Videos
Marketing with Video? Get a Chance to Interact with your Promotional Video Producer
Recently I needed to produce a branding line for a new product of mine. I needed sales videos, and a branding video intro and outro I could use as a wrapper for all my product videos as well as product graphics and banners. Did I mention I also needed a logo?
My one stop shopping source – Phill Mason, motions graphics expert and musician, rockin’ promotional video production designer
Phill is a seasoned professional creating branding campaigns and videos for numerous giants including Ed Dale’s 30 Day Challenge Music Video.
Phill is located in the UK, that’s hours of flying time for me…
How did we get all this done in a tenth of the time it would normally take to assemble and produce a complete super cool branding line? We did it on Skype.
It’s all About the Real Time Communication and Interaction
Usually when you need a piece of code or graphics for your website, email communication is the norm. You find a designer or software engineer, specify your needs and wants and then perhaps have a quick telephone chat. This is all in the initial stage, before anything has been created.
Then you receive a list of things needed to complete the project (for video production this includes, audio, video, text, images, tempo and more)
In many cases you end up completing the entire process via email. Completing a complicated project by Email can be very time consuming and ineffective.
It’s Hard to Describe What you Don’t Know
Since you are clearly not an expert in the field you are outsourcing work, you don’t really know what questions to ask, or the small nuances possible to make your end product the best it can be. I certainly didn’t know exactly how my graphics should look or how to integrate audio branding into my soundtrack.
You might receive a rough edit to evaluate attached to an email. You then read the email, review your video and think about how you feel about it, what you like and don’t like about it and then try to put that into writing. Now you need to send your reply to your designer, they need to read it, understand what you meant and possibly reply to you with another set of questions etc.
You end up reviewing several iterations of the project ping ponging comments back and forth as opposed to spending that time working together on your actual product.
While many processes work this way, I find in video production, conventional email communication is a huge time suck. In video production time is money.
Real Time Collaboration Accelerates The Video Production Process
When working with Phill, most of the actual editing and creation process was done live online. Phill would email me a draft and then we would review it together on Skype.
Phill is big on Screen Sharing and very easy to work with. He would show me the draft online and I would react, thinking out loud and sharing my impressions, wants and concerns. Then Phill would make changes in real time, showing me how different elements look with various changes and explain small nuances I never would have understood via dry email communication.
If you have ever tried to edit a video or perfect copy or music you know how long this can take. Also if this is your first video production you really need someone that you can talk to. Branding videos is not a straightforward process. Working with Phill, I had total creative control without having to understand how to do it. As I watched
Phill would make small changes live. New ideas popped into my head and they were instantly implemented, tested, discussed kept or trashed.
That kind of live interaction can’t be matched.
At the end of each call we would have a new rough cut and a good understanding of what the next output sample would be.
Phill would then work on the video edits that are more technical and time consuming off line and behind the scenes motions graphics and fancy elements.
The Marketing Man
Phill’s internet marketing experience brings value and weight to the project and final production. He not only looks at it from an artistic or creative aspect, but also as a fellow marketer, deciding which emotional triggers can be pushed throughout.
Only 3 Skype Calls Got The Job Done!
Phill Mason prefers to collaborate with his clients on Skype. The value is in the discussion, it’s where you learn the most and really understand what is possible to do at that production moment.
Phill and I only needed 3 Skype sessions (each one was an hour and a half to two hours long.)
The net time it took to complete my project from start to finish was a fraction of the time of regular email workflow.
We managed to get so much more information across in that time which was a huge saving.
Every time I got off the phone with Phill I would think to myself; “Wow, we got so much done, I’m so excited to be in creative control and ensure my video is exactly as I want it, only way better than I could have imagined”, thanks to the real time interactive process with Phill and his amazing creative abilities I have an outstanding product.
A small team working closely together makes for a better product.
Something special about Phill Mason
I am not a professional video producer, luckily Phill is. He’s not only a wiz at the techie stuff to do with branding video production and post production, he is also a musician (I like to call him a rock star, but he’s very modest and always laughs when I say that…)
If I had just sent a graphics pack to any other producer and went down the email time hole my end product could never have looked or sounded as good.
Phill created all my music. Meaning I have special audio branding unique to me at a fraction of the cost!
Phill created all the branding graphics, and blended them seamlessly throughout both the graphical items and the video components, creating a consistent and strong branding flow throughout.
There is great value in working with a great all round promotional video production expert with strong marketing know how. Phill instinctively tweaks audio, graphics, and marketing messages to maximize the impact of each frame.
Phill did an exceptional job; I can’t wait to reveal the video to you – you can see it here – Branding Videos with Motions Graphics
You can contact Phill Mason but please be nice; he’s not just an accomplished artist but seriously a nice guy. His rates are shockingly affordable and his time is very effective.
