Hard Times Cultivate Creative Social CrowdFunding Solutions for Business, Arts and Culture and Even Events
You may be aware of the newly proposed JOBS Act, intended to allow private investors to invest directly in companies in a model called Crowdfunding.
Investing and funding are significantly different terms.
When you invest you retain part of the business, when you fund you do not. Crowd Funding is the new social power to getting your project paid for in advance.
Kickstarter is a crowd-funding site that allows you to list a project from the creative fields of Art, Comics, Dance, Design, Fashion, Film, Food, Games, Music, Photography, Publishing, Technology, and Theater for funding. The site is dedicated to creative projects so make sure to check out their project guidelines before posting.
The main part of the project page is dedicated to information about the project to help you learn about it and more importantly what will be done with the funded money.
One of the main categories is publishing.
This is huge, yet another way to finance your book without having to rely on a publishing deal! Though I imagine any traditional publishing house would be happy to sign you on if you received a great backing!
Here are some examples of featured Kickstarter Publishing Projects:
On the right hand side you can see the rewards. Rewards are what backers receive in exchange for pledging to a project.
Now this is where it gets interesting.
Take a close look at projects that get backed, check out the rewards, pricing and number of backers per reward offered. Then check out projects that don’t do so well.
The rewards are a way to give the backer part of the product.
So in essence you can get people to back a reward that includes the physical product you are creating – and get paid for creating it in advance.
Note in the image on the right, that people are happy to pledge $5 for a bumper sticker with your logo (brilliant!). In this example product creation and brand awareness are being funded by the backers.
There are additional crowdfunding sites online. It is incredible to witness this social funding phenomenon. In a way this is true power to the people!
If you are creating products or marketing online, head on over to Kickstarter and kick start your creativity!
