In the video above I show you another tactic that +Mike Elgan Talked about in his article on Computerworld about automating his Google Plus Posts to his email newsletter and I’m going to show you how to do that with Feedburner.
So let’s head on over to Feedburner and you should already have a Feedburner account but if you don’t sign up for one it’s a free Google Product.
And I’m going to go into my feeds and find the feed that I made yesterday I’m going to click on it.
Step 1 – Activate the Feedburner Email Subscription Service For Your Feed
To add a subscription by email go to the Publicize tab of the feed. And select Email Subscriptions so that we are offering feed updates via email. And click on Activate.
Once the service is activated you will receive these configuration options.
Step 2 – Get Your Email Subscription Code in Subscription Management
The first one is going to be subscription management which is where you get the code to put on your Google Plus Profile page or on your website, in your email signature, they have widgets for Typead and Blogger if you have those websites.
And we are going to copy this link and copy it into a Notepad document for later.
So if we preview the subscription link – this is what it’s going to look like when someone clicks on the subscription link.
They are going to enter in their email address and complete the captcha and complete the subscription request after which they will get an email asking them to confirm the subscription.
The next step is to go to the Communications Preferences.
Step 3 – Define Your Communication Preferences
Communication Preferences we are specifying the email that our new subscribers are going to receive when they click on subscribe – they are going to receive a request to activate their email subscription.
So you can edit the subject line and the body content of the email but make sure not to change the hard coded links to confirm inside. And if you make any changes to the information you will need to click on Save again.
Step 4 – Add Personal Branding To Your Feedburner Emails
Next you’ll head on to email branding where you can specify what your emails will look like. These are the emails that your subscribers will receive with your posts feed inside.
And this is the subject line of the email.
You can link your logo if you have it online buy entering in the web address of your logo – so if it’s on your website for example.
You can also spiffy up the formatting of your email by selecting different fonts, sizes and colors and when you’re done don’t forget to click on Save.
Step 5 – Specify Email Delivery Options
Next you will specify your delivery options which say what time of day and by what time zone you would like to be sending the email. So that you can decide that every day at 9 or 10 o’clock AM your subscribers will receive an email.
If you did not post anything new on Google Plus they will not get an email that day.
Step 6 – Add a Subscription Link to Your Google Plus Profile
And once you’ve finished all of these steps and saved all of your changes it’s time to head on over to your Google Plus profile and enter in the link for your subscription so that people can opt in to receive your posts by email.
Thank you to +Johan Horak for showing me this simple trick! (When you visit Johan’s Gplus Profile you will note he also has a weekly email subscription option set up using his Feedburner subscription feed in MailChimp)
So I’m on my Google Plus profile and I’m going to click on edit profile and here in my introduction I’m going to provide a link to subscribe to my posts by email.
Copy the link text that you got from Feedburner and paste it into your Google Plus Profile introduction section. Then copy the feed link (the web address between the “ “) , highlight the text and link it to your Feedburner address.
I’m going to test this link to make sure that it’s good and this is going to be my email subscription request. It’s working!
Don’t forget to Click on Save to save your changes!
And now you can see that subscribe to my public posts by email is right here and I invite you all to come on down to my profile and subscribe.
Here is my spanking new subscription Link: Subscribe to Shira Gal – Google+ Public Posts by Email
And that’s how easy it is to get a subscription link to your Google Plus posts by email through Feedburner.
